Did actually do some work today. Cleaned the house through, ironed, baked a delicious Lemon Cake and Creamy Leek Bake for dinner and still found time to have coffee and a long natter with my friend Sharon. Do I really have to go back to work next week?

My Lemon Cake
Something that amused me last week was a comment from a Swiss teacher who had been visiting our school. She was reading the poster in the foyer that was advertising the breakfast club that I run and she spotted that on Fridays we were having boiled egg and soldiers. I understand what a boiled egg is, she said and I know what a soldier is but why would you be eating a soldier. It was funny explaining that is what we call a slice of bread cut into thin slices so you can dip them into the egg easily. Thank goodness we weren't having bangers and mash or toad in the hole for lunch.

The vagaries of the English language, eh!
When the children were v. young they used to have boiled eggs with bloody soldiers (little specks of jam on the bread) I wonder what she would have made of thet?
