Part four (the final part)

Hurray I hear you say. But I've started so I might as well finish.
It was raining when we arrived in Hawkshead. But hey ho, what do you expect in the Lake District. It's all part of it's charm and why I love it so much.

This is Blackwell House the arts and craft house on the banks of Lake Windermere. I can recommend a visit. It was delightful inside and we had a lovely lunch in the cafe.

We stayed at the Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge. OH and I first saw it many, many years ago when we were young and penniless and we both agreed that one day when we had some money we would return and stay there. Little did I know that it would take quite so long before we would return. It was never the right time to stay there when we have been to the area again. Small children, no money etc. We have always stayed in self catering accommodation on numerous holidays. But this time it was just the two of us and we had a couple of quid in our pockets. So we thought it as about time. We plan to go back and stay at the Swan again soon.

The view from the bedroom window.

We had a really good time and it made me realize how much I would love to live in Cumbria. On the way back we stopped off in Cartmel and we went to the Village Shop for a Sticky Toffee Pud. A tradition in our household on the way home from our holiday in the lakes. .

My Mum was born in Hounslow, near Heathrow airport so during WWI she was evacuated to Cumbria for over 6 years to live with her Dad's brother. When I did some family tree research I found that five generations come from Cumbria. Coincidentally my husbands Gran also come from Cumbria.

What a lovely holiday you had, maybe one day I'll get there, fingers crossed.
